The New AMSA Gains MembersALEXANDRIA, VA - The American Moving and Storage Association gained nearly 100 members in the months of May and June, the largest two-month increase in its history, bringing the total membership to more than 3,800.
The new member companies include domestic household goods moving companies, industry suppliers and international movers.
“This increase in membership shows that the industry needs and values AMSA now more than ever as it faces considerable change in the legal and regulatory landscape,” said Linda Bauer Darr, president and chief executive officer of AMSA, who took the helm of the association in April.
She cited a number of events and changes that can explain the increase, including the Surface Transportation Board decision eliminating antitrust immunity for collective ratemaking in the moving industry as of Jan. 1, 2008, which has many interstate movers looking to AMSA to navigate the new legal environment.
