Is a Moving Inventory Necessary?

Is a Moving Inventory Necessary?

Author: Andi A.

What’s special in a Moving Inventory? Why do we need a Moving Inventory?
A Moving Inventory for international relocation is much similar as a domestic inventory, for international relocation the inventory is much more important and necessary then domestic relocation. On international moving the moving inventory is the confirmation list of all the items that were picked up from your home, if they were packed and by whom, if there were damages prior shipping or moving or not, it provides the number of pcs picked up from your home..
With out a moving inventory there is no other documents that confirms that 57 pcs where picked up from your home and 27 were packed by the owner and 30 were packed by the company. 12 items had some damages on them before the move, etc…
When movers/ International relocation companies pack your home, on your relocation always request a copy of your moving inventory. A moving inventory is a must for any type of relocation: domestic or international.
How does it work: after packing your home, and prior loading the moving truck or on an international move loading the container, the movers need to walk and list all goods packed be the mover or your own onto a moving inventory list. The moving inventory will be itemized with serial stickers 01, 02, 03, 04 – 21,22,23,24….
each # contains an item from your home for example:
01 – books
02 – linens
03 – box of shoes
04 – toys
Any reputable company will provide by the end of the day a detailed inventory of the goods picked up, the inventory should be listing the number of pcs picked up from your home including a description of the goods and its packages. The inventory would be readable and understandable by the customer and the mover.
The inventory is also listed with list of conditions of the item picked up and packed, for example:
If the goods were packed by the owner of the goods the inventory will provide the sequence of numbers as listed above and with initials of PBO – packed by owner.
If the goods were packed by the company, the inventory will indicate PBC – packed by company or CP – company pack.
Same as the condition of the item packed, such as scratches, damages, etc. this is to list the condition of the item for insurance purposes.
Its good to ask the movers for listing the boxes & inventory were packed, kids room, master bed room, dining room, etc. in order to have a count of boxes, and knowledge where does each box go to on your new home.
What the inventory should not be like:
Some companies who are not aware of the importance of the inventory will list your goods as box, box, box, with no description of item, only a list of boxes. For insurance purposes its important knowing a short description of the items packed into the boxes.
Add to Shipping international page:
Its very important that the shipping company you higher for the move will list the inventory clear and understandable, all items must be listed on the inventory.
For example:
# 61 – toys – kids room PBO
# 62 – ” ” ” ”
# 63 – Linens ” ” ”
# 64 – Bed parts – kids room PBC
.
.
.
# 70 – Dining table top PBC
# 71 – Dining table legs PBC
# 72 – Dining T. chair PBC
# 73 – ” ” ”
.
one of the major reasons why is it so important is that when your goods are arriving to its destination all documents are processed thru customs, if customs don’t understand the inventory, or the inventory is not clear with a description of items, 99% your shipment be held by customs for exams.
In order to avoid any delays and additional charges at the port of entry of your destination, its very important to have all documents in hand and done in the right way.
A pcs count of goods packed in your home is important. when your company will prepare your shipment they will require to declare the # of pcs loaded onto your container or LCL (lose container load) shipment. If you decide to pack your shipment on your own you must provide your shipper with all info. the there is a discrepancy with the list of items on your shipment 99% your shipment will be held at customs for exams which will add additional port charge. storage fees. and custom inspection charges on your shipment.
For Insurance purposes:
Your inventory will be listed with the following listings PBO / PBC, what does this mean…??
PBO – Packed by Owner – the owner has packed his goods, insurance coverage will only take place if damages applied while the shipment was in transport and not if damages applied on bad packing.
PBC or CP – Packed by Company / Company Pack – the owner will have full insurance coverage on damages if applied by bad packing or while transport.
For more info on insurance and coverage click here
The numbers on the inventory will provide a secure list of your shipment where you can detect the number of pcs pick up from your home. If items got lost the insurance company will request the boxes and there numbers from the inventory, the inventory is the proof that your goods were shipped with all your goods.
The bottom line its important to have your moving inventory done by your relocation company clear and understandable for reading, detailed with listing. it will save any delays at customs and avoid any miss items if they get lost.

Finding Packing Supplies that Work

Finding Packing Supplies that Work

Author: Matt Douglas Smith

Finding packing supplies in San Diego that fit your budget are not too hard. The trick is to find packing supplies that also fit your needs. Depending upon how far you’re moving and what you plan on taking, you have to make smart choices about packing from the start. Some items require more protection than you might think, and this means that the costs of supplies can sometimes be a bit higher than you’d expect, especially if you plan how you’re going to pack at the last minute. The best way to go about moving is to start planning on how everything’s going to be packed up from the start. If you have a lot of expensive furniture, for example, you’ll have to find a place that sells packing supplies in San Diego that has containers or protectors designed to keep the wood safe from scratches and nicks. If you have glass-top furniture, you’ll definitely want to avoid compromising by making your own materials to protect those pieces. Some stores that sell packing supplies in San Diego have large containers that are specifically designed for heavy, awkward and fragile items such as glass tabletops and mirrors. The amount that you spend at a business that sells packing supplies in San Diego can be further reduced by having an idea of how many boxes you’ll need. While it’s better to have a few extras, people sometimes go way overboard by buying too many boxes and, thus, end up wasting money. Be sure you figure out how many boxes your belongings will take before you go and guess at the number. You can do this by buying a few boxes and experimenting with how many items you can fit in them. The more tightly you can pack items, the better. You can find stores that sell packing supplies in San Diego that also sell related accessories. These include bungees and other devices used to secure loads. If you’re not sure how everything’s going to fit into your car or truck, pick up some of these items. They offer you a way to secure your load if you end up overloading your vehicle a bit, but don’t want to go through the process of repacking the entire thing. In general, the more prepared you are for problems beforehand, the faster the entire process of moving will go for you.

10 Tips for Green Moving and Relocation Companies

Moving has traditionally not been a very earth friendly industry with the use of gas burning trucks necessary to haul the average persons household goods sometimes as far sometimes as across the country. The burning of fossil fuels and toxic emissions from interstate hauling are a serious problem for planet Earth and eco concious consumers are hungry for more choices.

Green moving companies now offer biofuel trucks in local areas or fuel credits for carbon offset programs but fossil fuels will dominate the trucking industry for many years to some by limitations inn existing technology and infrastructure. Eco fuel stations and retro fitting of existing fuel depots will be a costly expenditure on local governments and business owners. Adding bio fuel capabilities to existing petrol gas stations sounds simple but its not. Delivery of eco friendly fuels and costs involved in storage are going to be tough to overcome for the transportation industry if a direct haul moving truck is what you need.

Moving green is not as easy as buying carbon credits to replace the ones you use moving from state and we all need to look at how to reduce what we consume and transport. Making the right choices and planning your next move can make earth friendly moving and relocation much easier on you and the planet.

Earth Friendly Movers

Here are 10 tips for earth friendly green moving and relocation services.

1* Less is always best for planet earth and the less stuff you have to move the better off you will be come your moving day. Letting go of our personal things is most often the hardest thing for people to do but getting rid of clutter and junk before you move will save on your moving expense.

2* Get rid of everything you no longer use or need before you begin packing and then do your best to not replace things as soon as you get to your new home. Consider having a garage or yard sale, or selling your unused items online at places like eBay auctions or maybe Craigslist and the local newspaper or online classifieds.

3* Buy used cardboard boxes online but ONLY if you cannot find them locally as the added shipping is always bad and it’s just better to clean up your own neighborhood first. Even the best moving companies will most often prefer that their clients use brand spanking new moving boxes when they move to help provide stability and so they can sell more boxes, which means a lot of very good condition and barely used cardboard moving boxes get tossed after only one use. If you are using cardboard moving boxes, look for boxes made with the most post consumer recycled material and offer them to someone else when you are finished. If necessary recyle the boxes but do not just throw them away.

4* Rent reusable moving boxes and packing crates made of recycled plastic materials when packing which can eliminate the waste of cardboard boxes altogether and provide more secure storage for valuables. Many local movers now provide these rental services through companies that manufacture bins of recycled plastics or you might have to find your own company willing to do that for you.

5* Use recycled newspapers for non-fragile items, or even old bed sheets, linens or towels as packing material in your boxes and forget about those nasty plastic bubble wraps and styrofoam peanuts. Recycled Newspaper may end up weighing more but anything you can do to cut down on the amount of petrol based plastics used in your move helps the environment. Be sure to recycle the old newspaper when you unpack at your new home. There is no sense in bringing your garbage with you to a new home is there?

6* Always try to use environmentally friendly house cleaning products and methods of waste disposal when cleaning up an existing home or apartment before you plan on moving out. Eco friendly companies like Seventh Generation and other national brands of green cleaning products offer a variety of items such as soaps and sanitizers plus toilet bowl cleaners, dish washing powders and even carpet cleaners that are environmentally friendly. In todays earth conscious society green cleaning products can be everywhere including big box stores like Target and even Walmart where most everything is “Made in Communist China”. Also make sure that you don’t forget to dispose of hazardous items like electronics, batteries and toxic chemicals according to local regulations.

7* Whenever possible hire green moving companies that only use Earth friendly business practices in their day to day operations. A leader in the green relocation industry is Go Green Moving Company which owns their own fleet of bio diesel powered moving trucks. Green movers will also use moving pads made from 100% recycled or sustainable grown materials, provide reusable boxes and recycle all packing supplies and waste involved in your move.

8* Ask that your moving company employ eco-friendly business practices for your move, especially if it doesn’t already do so as a standard. Have them purchase alternative fuels and show them how they can do so using online services such as MapQuest or Google. If more moving companies believe that consumers are demanding environmentally friendly moves, the moving industry will feel obligated to adopt more green moving methods.

9* Give back to the planet and plant a tree in your new yard to produce oxygen that will offset anything you created on your move. Give your tree a name and a birthdate and take care of it like you would any other living being with your children, friends or family. Get everyone involved in planting more fruit bearing trees and feed the world

10* A new home should mean a new life for you and your family and the biggest thing you can do when you move it to change the way you live. Go green and organic in everything you do for the rest of your life and make a real change in your own world. From consuming less to recycling more try to be a better more earth friendly human and make the task of your next move to a new home into the dream of being a better and happier person.
