Business cards and supplies at VistaPrint.com

I needed some business cards and I thought that I might have some nicer business cards printed this time around instead of going the cheap route and printing my own business cards using templates from OpenOffice or Photoshop. The last time I made a business card it came out nice but it took a long time for me to make a nice looking design and then I moved and had to change them all. It sucked so this time around I’ll be more careful about what I actually write on them. I don’t really feel like making some fancy card this time around. I decided to find a place on the web that would provide some easy to use tempaltes soi I can design a quick and easy business card in one evening.

My search for a printing service provider online brought me to rubber stamps as well as promotional materials like magnets, pens and hats.

Their website is very impressive and they offer a lot of business card designs to chose from. Searching for a business card is simple enough and the paged navigation makes moving around the site p\smooth. They have so many different designs that their web site comes with a pretty cool bookmark feature that saves designs for you to review. I chose a simple ocean scene for my business card and within minutes had input my relevant information and proceeded to checkout. It was a smooth transaction and it was no time at all before I had finished my order and I now have 1000 new business cards being delivered by UPS ground.

Now I have to find the right 100 people to give these cards to. One of them has got to pay off for me in a big way right?

Moving Companies – the good, the bad and the scams

No one should have to put up with a scam moving company that is unprofessional and dishonest when they have to move to a new place. That is the last thing that one needs to add to the stress that comes with moving everything you own. Since your possessions are priceless to you, you want to make sure that they arrive safely at your new location and in one piece.
That’s why you should try your utmost to select a good moving company one that would work with you every step of the way, and one that has reliable and trustworthy employees working for them.
When choosing moving companies there is many things that you have to take into consideration. Each company offers something extra as shopping around for a moving company will later confirm. There are some companies that would offer you packing and unpacking services, as well as storage and there are those that will also assemble your furniture at your new home and even clean up your new home.
If you are interested in some of these services, then you should go with companies that offer them. Also check out the state and condition of the vehicles that the company is using. While a thorough check to see if the trucks are in good working condition to avoid the vehicle from being shut down en route to your new home, the bodywork on it could let you know if it is strong enough to hold your items and get it to your home safely.
If you are moving out of state, the condition of the vehicle would also be an important factor as you want to ensure that the vehicle has what it takes to go cross-country. Check the locks on the doors of the vehicle as well as the condition of the tires as well. Also check to see if the tray is rusty or looks broken down. Chances are a vehicle such as this would not be able to make it to your destination of choice.
Get references from friends about the people that they have chosen to move them. By doing this you will be getting a reference would be coming from someone who has tested and tried the service, which would be beneficial for you.

PACKING AND MOVING THE NEW YORK WAY

Moving in New York is probably not that much different from any other moves in America, but there are some tips in here that have literally been tested and proven to work.

The most important thing to do FIRST is create your own packing record-keeping system. The style doesn’t matter, as long as you are able to tell at a glance where everything is. Usually, however, a numbering system works best, with each WELL-DESCRIBED item being assigned a number as it is packed in a box that has been given a corresponding number. Keep the list with you at all times.

Don’t skimp on moving supplies. Get as many moving boxes as you think you’ll need, then get twice that many more. Get as many as you possibly can. Be sure to leave some empty as you will probably need them on moving day itself for forgotten or “needed-up-to-the-bitter-end” items.

Buy lots of good strong packing tape and use it to ensure that the boxes are securely closed.

Start collecting or buying stuff that can be used to wrap, cushion, and secure belongings. Magazine pages are better than newspaper, as the ink does not transfer off magazine pages. And, don’t forget that ordinary household items such as towels, pillows, sheets, pillowcases, even stuffed toys and animals, make great cushions.

Use wardrobe boxes (the ones that have the rod for a hanger built into the top of them) for clothing that needs to remain on the hangers, and ALSO for bulky but light articles such as comforters. Don’t forget to utilize any space at the bottom or sides of the boxes.

Do NOT make any boxes, particularly wardrobe boxes, so heavy that they cannot be lifted fairly easily. In other words, a wardrobe box is not the place for Dad’s bowling ball or the small fireproof safe that is kept in the bedroom.

Tips for Moving Your Plants

Want to further enhance your new home? You can do so by having plants in your home. Next to moving a vehicle, moving plants can also turn into a major headache. You have worked really hard at getting your plant from seedling to a blossoming plant the last thing that you want is to have them arrive to your new place looking wilted.

If you are moving cross-country either by truck or moving containers you will need approval from the US Department of Agriculture to take your plants from one state to another. Since plants carry their fair share of bugs and other diseases, these diseases can be spread to other crops where they may be implanted. Moving indoor houseplants is always the easier to transport. While there are no really big restrictions on moving indoor plants, you will still be advised to properly sterilize the soil that is in the pot. When you transport your indoor house plants you will be expected to grow strictly grow your plants indoors.

Plants are not the easiest things to transport so if you are moving very far away from your current location, you may have to do the unfortunate thing, which is to pass the plant along to someone who would take better care of it. If you are set on taking them along with you, do so in your vehicle since most moving pods companies do not want the hassle of moving something as fragile as your plants. The move will come smoother if you transport your plants in a plastic container or a pot and as opposed to a ceramic pot.

Even before you move, make sure to take your plants to a nursery where they will check for many things such as mildew and mold, and even bugs before you transport it. It would also be beneficial if you prune your larger plants as well. Plants should be packed last when you move and they should be placed in boxes and fit snugly.

DID THE MOVING COMPANY TAKE TOO LONG?

That depends on a number of factors. Was everything packed and ready to go when the movers arrived, or did they have to wait around while last-minute details that shouldn’t have been last minute were attended to? How far was it from your old residence to your new home?

If the homeowner has done his or her part, then it should not take very long at all. If the movers can come in and immediately begin loading furniture and belongings, then things will go much faster and smoother. If they have to stop, however, and make boxes more secure, or remove drawers, or otherwise have to do stuff that should have already been done, then things may slow considerably.

The length of the journey between the old home and the new residence should be taken into consideration, also. If the move is just across town, or only about an hour’s drive, then it is possible that all furniture and belongings will be packed and unpacked the same day. If the distance is such that the drive will take longer, then it may be two or more days.

Remember that movers may be covered by the same rules as “long-haul” truckers. If it will take more than eight hours to get to the new residence, the movers may be required to take a rest break, just as any trucker would. Also, if you know that you yourself cannot make the drive in less than a day, why should the movers be expected to do any differently?

If the movers are being paid by the hour, then you have every right to expect them to work as efficiently and rapidly as possible, while still protecting your furniture and belongings from damage. If you feel that they are “running the clock”, in other words, they are taking longer than they should, by all means speak up. You may wish to call the manager or supervisor, if you think it is necessary.

How to Clean an Apartment Before You Move Out

Although you may be tempted to leave your old place all messy especially if your landlord has not treated you in a nice manner through the duration of your tenancy, the reality is that in order to get back your security deposit you will need to tidy up the old home. Even if your deposit isn’t promised to you after you move it, it would make good moral sense to tidy up the apt before you leaves. Not only that but it would also reflect good on you and your family as well. No matter what is offered, you should go to your landlord’s office and get a copy of your move-in or move-out inspection form from him.

On this form you will find a list of items that you would need to check off for damages and other things that are currently in the house that was not there when you moved in. Make the walkthrough with the landlord and together itemize the things that needs to be repaired that were damaged while you lived there. Offer to cover the expenses for the repair if you cannot hire someone in time before you move. Remember to move all old foodstuff, milk and juices from the refrigerator before you leave.

You can then use cleaning agents with a rag and clean each shelf in its entirety. Leave an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator to guarantee freshness. Similarly remove stubborn stains from your oven with abrasive products such as Jif and the like. Steel wool products can also remove the stubborn stains from your oven as well.

Sweep and mop the floor as well as clean all tidy up all the sinks in the house. Cabinets are also susceptible to stains and they can easily be removed with a multi-purpose cleaner and a sponge. Surfaces like the kitchen counter tops and the sink top in the bathroom should also get some cleaning done to them.

Strong winter moving season upon us

It looks like we are having an unusually strong winter moving season this year. Our trucks are still running and we’re moving morfe people than ever for this time of year. I’m not certain if it has more to do with people spreading out their moves into different times of the year or if there are more people fleeing the cold nothern winters this year.

We actually brought on an additional work crew to keep up with the pace of things as we normally let 3 of 5 teams take the winter months off. This year we have 3 full crews and some back up bodies loading and unloading a lot of household goods in the cold. Moving folks during winter time is a mess most of the time but things are actually going very smoothly for us and the crews are glad to see the extra business over the holiday season.

Keeping up with the moving business is a trick but Affordable Moving is doing well this winter thanks to great clients like you.
