Lost your job? Preparing to move back home
There is nothing more dehumanizing than having to move back home to your parents after losing your job. As appreciative you will be for at least having a roof over your head and your parents to fall back on, moving back home with mom and dad does not stop you from feeling like a failure.
One also gets a sense of feeling like a child especially when returning home means that they have to be at their parent’s mercy. You will find yourself having to adhere to chores and tidy up around the home as you do odd jobs in lieu of covering food and living expenses.
To move back with your parents would mean that you have to learn to endure some of the lectures that they may be dishing out during your stay. Don’t allow yourself to be complacent when you move back into your parents home, rather still try to look for jobs and attend job appointments and fairs as regular as you can. When your parents see that you are at least making an effort to return to the job force, they will be a little more lenient on you around the home. This will let them see that you are not a lazy person and that you plan to stay at their home on a temporary basis.
If you are eligible for unemployment checks while you wait for your new job, you should make every effort to give your some money to cover a few of their bills. You should also save some of your employment checks to help keep afloat when you move into your next home after finding a job.
Follow house rules even if you are grown and are moving back in your parent’s home. And if you have to leave the house at any given time to stay out for an extended period, let your parents know where you would be and when you will get back as a form of courtesy.
