Making the military move

If your husband or wife is in the military on a full-time basis, chances are you will be expected to move along with them when they receive their orders.

Since military assignments are usually three years at a time, it would mean that there would be frequent moving around in your life with your soldier. Most of the times the move would take you to another American state while there are some whose military orders will take them to another far off country.

If there are children involved, the military move can be trying as well.
Kids will have to readjust to a new environment and new friends at school. Parents would have to take time to make sure that the moving process runs smoothly for the children.

Your important paperwork should be one of the first things that you should get in order. Put away your paperwork in a folder that would with plastic paper protectors included. In this folder, you should secure documents such as your military orders, your child’s school information in terms of grades and reports; your LES pay document as well as copies of your marriage license, your child’s immunization and other medical information.

Information about your car insurance your school diploma and other documents that you deem important should also go into the folder for easy access. You will be required to use these documents from time to time during your military move so always have them handy and together so that you can get them when you need to.

There are also other personal items that may want to put out of sight and out of the movers’ way when you are moving. Since most military moves are done by the military and they are responsible for moving your larger items, you will be expected to take care of putting away your smaller and personal items. Items such as jewelry, stocks and shares documents and even a gun should be left in a safety deposit box during your move.

Also before moving, make sure that you pay off all the utility companies before you leave and notify them of service transfer if you are moving within the US.
